Dental shaped sheet play a crucial role in the dental restoration process, especially in the repair of interproximal caries. Here are the specific steps for using dental shaped sheet:
I. Preparation Stage
Select the Appropriate Matrix Strip: Choose a suitable matrix strip based on the location and size of the tooth defect or caries. Common shaped sheet include round, irregular, and strip-shaped metal sheets.
Prepare Tools: Gather tools and materials such as pliers, moisture-control paper, light-curing equipment, rinsing solution, matrix formers, etc.
II. Operating Steps
Open the Retainer Ring: Use pliers to open the retainer ring of the matrix strip, ensuring it is securely clamped on the pliers.
Place the Ring for Tooth Separation: Insert the foot of the ring into the interproximal space (buccal or lingual side), with the ring body facing either the mesial or distal side. If facing mesial, you can place your finger for support. The ring helps separate the teeth, preparing for the placement of the matrix strip.
Remove Caries and Prepare Cavity: With the assistance of the ring, separate the teeth while removing caries and preparing the cavity shape. Ensure that all caries are thoroughly removed to provide an appropriate space for the filling material.
Adjust the Shape of the Matrix Strip: Gently adjust the shape of the matrix strip to better fit the tooth contour. This helps maintain the correct shape of the filling material during curing.
Place the Matrix Strip: Use a cotton plier or other pliers to hold the matrix strip and place it in the prepared cavity. Secure the matrix strip with an interproximal wedge to ensure a tight fit with the gingival margin. The interproximal wedge closes the gingival margin gap to avoid overhangs.
Fix the Matrix Strip: Place the foot of the ring between the matrix strip and the interproximal wedge to fix the matrix strip and continue tooth separation. Ensure the matrix strip is securely attached to the tooth.
Manage Contact Points: Gently push and pull the matrix strip to ensure it fits tightly against the tooth. When repairing MOD cavities (mesio-occluso-distal cavities), larger oval rings or two rings may be used to ensure the stability and fit of the matrix strip.
III. Subsequent Operations
Fill the Material: With the protection of the matrix strip, inject the filling material into the cavity. Ensure the filling material is fully cured.
Remove the Matrix Strip: After the filling material is cured, use appropriate tools to remove the matrix strip and interproximal wedge.
